This position is remote through early September. Effective Monday, September 13th, this position is considered remote, up to 1 day in the office at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week.

The Assistant Director manages the overall recruitment, outreach, stewardship and cultivation for corporate teams participating in the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk.  This includes a goal of 140 donor visits annually. The Assistant Director will develop a plan to recruit, cultivate, retain, and recognize new corporate teams, as well as pitch and conduct corporate team information sessions at targeted organizations. Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals.

Dana-Farber is currently in the largest and most ambitious fundraising effort in the Institute’s history – The Dana-Farber Campaign | Defy Cancer. Launched publicly in May 2021, the goal of the $2 billion campaign is to defy cancer at every turn and harness new techniques and technologies to prevent, treat, and defy cancer, resulting in more lives saved, more families intact, more dreams realized. The comprehensive campaign is coordinated around four pillars that build on our strengths and will accelerate our progress – Revolutionary Science, Extraordinary Care, and Exceptional Expertise – as well as the mission critical flexible funds that will allow us to change the face of cancer forever.

Requirements

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and grow total revenue portfolio to $1,000,000 annually for the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk by October 2023. Revenue goal to be accomplished through the following:
  • Primary contact for all corporate teams for the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk.
  • In conjunction with Associate Director, develop strategy and fundraising plan for all corporate teams and work individually with Team Captains and Pacesetters on such teams to continually increase revenue for the Walk.
  • Develop recruitment strategies through leads from other teams, corporate sponsors, and trustees.
  • Maintain estimated portfolio of 50-60 corporate teams and recruit 15-20 new corporate teams annually.
  • Complete donor visits to participants yielding 100 calls/face-to-face meetings annually:
    • Year-round focus of donor visits with corporate Team Captains, Pacesetters and prospective new corporate Walk teams.
      • Work directly with Team Captains to formulate recruitment strategy and clearly define team goals in terms of participation and fundraising totals.
      • Cultivate and steward current Pacesetters and encourage migration to higher Pacesetter levels.
      • Cultivate and steward non-Pacesetters and encourage migration to Pacesetter status.
      • Identify Team Captain(s) within companies and work with them directly to help grow participation within company.
  • In collaboration with Assistant Vice President, liaise with Corporate Partnerships to secure $300,000+ in cash corporate sponsors to underwrite the budget, secure in-kind sponsors, and to build corporate Walk team program
    • Ensure all sponsors are represented appropriately in Walk marketing materials and on event weekend
    • Identify new companies, community organizations, and/ or individuals to participate in and fundraise for the Walk
  • Cultivate and steward new corporate Walk teams as assigned by Associate Director.

      • Contact Team Captains of all new teams to set up initial donor visit to discuss team goals and expectations for the Walk.
  • In conjunction with the Assistant Vice President, attend various executive-level meetings to present the Jimmy Fund Walk to companies in the Greater Boston area.
  • Assist Associate Director – Recruitment and Stewardship in:
    • Development of strategic fundraising tips and tools that encourage Pacesetters to reach the next Pacesetter level and non-Pacesetters to become Pacesetters.
    • Development of strategic fundraising tips, tools, and incentives for Team Captains and corporate teams.
    • Analysis of total team fundraising and subsequent outreach to Team Captains.
  • Assume major responsibilities/a leadership role with regard to set-up and logistics on event weekend.
  • Attend networking workshops and events throughout Boston, focused on corporate engagement.
  • Participate in at least one other competitive organization’s event.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reports to Assistant Vice President, Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk. Has indirect supervisory responsibilities and seeks major decision-making authority from supervisor. However, the position is also programmatic in nature; expect a considerable amount of autonomy in decision-making when working with participants, volunteers, donors, and staff is necessary.

Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree required with minimum 5 years’ experience in professional fundraising and/or sales. Special events or donor relations experience preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills. Possess the ability to work well with all DFCI departments and donor constituencies of all levels, juggle multiple projects, and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Reliance on excel, so possess high level of competence in Microsoft Office Suite, including, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

This position will evaluate current programs and create and execute approved plans to expand and diversify the donors and participants for the events assigned in order to broaden our donor base and create even more inclusive events. Experience with diverse donors is a plus.
