Witt/Kieffer has been retained by Indiana University Health (IU Health) to assist in their recruitment efforts for a Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO).Headquartered in Indianapolis, IU Health is the largest health system in Indiana and among the top 10 largest single state nonprofit health systems in the U.S. Through its 15 hospitals and numerous ambulatory care sites, IU Health offers a full range of specialty and primary care services for children and adults. Statewide, IU Health has more than 3,000 beds, over $5 billion in net total operating revenue, and 30,000 team members.
Position Overview
This is a newly created position with a tremendous opportunity for the CPO to have a substantial and immediate impact on several mission critical strategies for IU Health. Currently, IU Health has seventeen foundations/development offices throughout the system. The new CPO will create one IU Health Foundation with centralized operations and alignment in purpose and strategy. In achieving this future state of philanthropy, this executive will lead a coordinated, collaborative approach to development and enhancement of donor contributions throughout the entire IU Health enterprise. Key to the CPO’s success will be balancing respect for the special characteristics of each IU Health institution’s fundraising programs and maintaining personal and fiduciary responsibility to donors, past and present. This highly visible executive will be an outstanding business partner with a wide range of key stakeholders within IU Health and will participate in enterprise wide strategic planning to ensure alignment of philanthropic objectives with IU Health strategic priorities.
We are seeking a dynamic, transformational, and accomplished philanthropy executive who can work effectively in a highly matrixed organization and a relationship driven culture. Candidates will have a strong track record of creating a philanthropic culture of collaboration, innovation and strategic growth. The CPO will have the personal presence and ability to command an audience that is central to leadership in philanthropy. The successful candidate will be steeped in philanthropy best practices and possess a track record of increasing charitable income and expanding the size of a donor base in large, geographically diverse markets.
