POSITION SUMMARY

The Strategic Projects Officer provides research and project management support to the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO). The CPO leads the growing Grants & Mission Investing team. This team has responsibility for implementation of four of Trinity’s five key strategic initiatives and uses grants, mission investments, convenings and policy engagement to drive impact. The Strategic Projects Officer will act as surrogate for CPO as required and will be expected to provide advice and counsel to the CPO.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Research & Representation

  • Prepares briefings for the CPO for meetings and events, including context on meeting goals, background on attendees, notes from prior meetings. Works with the CPO’s Executive Assistant to coordinate on logistics and ensure delivery of briefing in a timely manner.
  • Prepares briefings for Rector, Vicar and strategic clergy for grants-related events, as required.
  • Researches, synthesizes and prepares content for CPO’s presentations. Works with graphic designers as needed.
  • Attends CPO’s meetings and events as required to learn, take notes and manage follow-up.
  • Acts as surrogate and apprises CPO on information gathered at events or meetings when CPO has not been able to attend
  • Prepares first draft of memos and reports based on research.

Project Management

  • Project management of cross-program special projects, usually projects that connect two or more GMI initiatives.
  • Manages and refers requests that come in for funding and gifts.
  • Develops and maintains external engagement database for the CPO, working with the CPO’s Executive Assistant.
  • Handles and troubleshoots problems and issues.

Administrative

  • Collects and prepares weekly reports from GMI to the Rector.
  • Prepares agenda for key internal meetings led by GMI.
  • Collaborates with CPO’s Executive Assistant to ensure line of sight on CPO’s calendar. Proactively identifies needs and opportunities.

Internal Engagement

  • Contributes to team discussions and planning.
  • Assumes other related responsibilities and special projects as required.
  • Facilitates collaboration across the GMI team and with other departments, such as Communications, IT, Real Estate, Finance and Legal.
  • Adheres to confidentiality rules and all other Trinity Church Wall Street policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner that promotes Trinity’s mission and core values.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to synthesize and present clear and concise summaries and conclusions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and possesses the ability to relate well with people within and outside Trinity, including the ability to build relationships.
  • Skilled trouble-shooter.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency, particularly with PowerPoint.
  • Detail-oriented, and excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to exercise strong judgment and initiative.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize, accurately complete multiple tasks, and work under deadlines and changing priorities.

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CREDENTIALS

  • A minimum of five years of administrative, communications or program experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or the equivalent combination of training and/or work experience.
  • Familiarity with working internationally and/or fluency in languages other than English would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of and experience in faith institutions, nonprofit organizations and/or the philanthropic sector.
