The San Francisco Foundation (TSFF) is the community foundation serving the Bay Area since 1948, granting more than $800 million over the past ten years. Through the generosity and vision of our family of donors, TSFF has over $1 billion in assets and awarded grants totaling more than $90 million in FY 2015. TSFF brings together donors and builds on community assets through grantmaking, lending, leveraging, public policy, advocacy, civic engagement and leadership development. The San Francisco Foundation serves San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, and San Mateo Counties.
Position Overview
The Director of Development reports to the Vice President of Development and Donor Services and has primary responsibility for securing new gifts to The San Francisco Foundation from new donors. The Director acts as the Foundation’s primary liaison with the legal, financial, and wealth advising communities and with prospective donors.
POSITION SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Development: In collaboration with the VP, the Director will take a lead role in identifying and attracting new and significant contributions to the Foundation through the creation and implementation of new business/fundraising strategies. Meet and consult with professional advisors to generate gift referrals from their clients. Identify and successfully solicit contributions from individuals and family foundations into charitable funds and to other giving opportunities at the Foundation. Respond to inquiries from professional advisors and prospective donors regarding charitable funds, giving options, investments, and charitable tax matters. Work in partnership with the Donor Services staff to develop and implement strategies to generate new donor referrals from existing donors.
Marketing Communications: Working collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications department to effectively communicate the Foundation’s work to professional advisors and prospective donors. Work includes developing collateral materials and other informational and educational materials specifically for professional advisors and potential donors.
Volunteer management: In partnership with the VP, the Director will help staff a professional advisors committee which will guide the Foundation in its outreach to the professional advisor community.
New partnerships: Manage existing partnerships, and seek new ones, with organizations that potentially can generate new donor referrals.
