Position Overview

The Associate Director of Philanthropy is responsible for managing a portfolio of 60-100 individual, corporate and foundation donors and prospects, and for raising gifts and pledges of (primarily) over $100,000 for The Nature Conservancy’s priorities both locally in Washington and around the world. They help shape and communicate the case for support in a donor-centric way, developing proposal budgets and translating complex information. They centrally manage their donors’ and prospects’ relationships with the organization, including engaging directly as well as facilitating personal connections with staff and volunteer leadership. The Associate Director of Philanthropy works with volunteer trustees to help advance their fundraising work on behalf of The Nature Conservancy. They apply knowledge of fundraising principles to identify and engage new donor prospects with the capacity to give 6-figure gifts or greater, as well as steward long-standing donors and increase their future giving. They ensure solicitations of gifts of cash, stock and other assets, as well as planned gifts, through direct personal asks, written proposals and through other staff or trustee peer solicitation. They frequently work within teams, and will be required to use The Nature Conservancy’s central relationship management system database (Blackbaud CRM).
