August 2024 Recap: Reflecting on Progress and Looking Ahead
As we reflect on August, a month filled with impactful initiatives, we’re excited to share the highlights that have shaped our journey. This month, we continued our Membership Monday Spotlight Series by featuring Dr. Melicia Whitt-Glover, Executive Director of the Council on Black Health, emphasizing the value of ABFE membership and welcoming new members committed to advancing racial equity in philanthropy.
We uplifted our Wednesday Community Workshop Series on Wednesday, August 28th with the virtual session, 'Not Just Grantmaking: Integrating Racial Equity into Programs & Internal Systems,' fostering meaningful dialogue on embedding equity into organizational practices.
In celebration of Black Philanthropy Month, ABFE launched a social media campaign to spotlight key initiatives and share insights from our thought leaders, promoting racial equity. Featured articles include:
- "The Audacity of Hope 2.0 and Building on ABFE’s Legacy of Resistance" by E. Bomani Johnson, ABFE’s Senior Director of Special Initiatives, exploring ABFE's commitment to racial equity through the READI initiative.
- "Addressing Black Maternal Health Disparities" by Trinnette Cooper, ABFE’s Director of PHilanthropic Advising Services, tackling vital issues in Black maternal health.
- "ABFE Remembers Sonya Massey: A Philanthropic Call for Lasting Change," highlighting the urgent need for better protection for Black women.
Our 2024 Black Women in Philanthropy Leadership Retreat welcomed over 80 Black women leaders to Charleston, South Carolina! We also contributed to critical discussions at #ForumCon24, and at the "Envisioning the Future of Black Philanthropy through Afro-Futurism" event. Edward Jones, ABFE’s Vice President of Programs and Philanthropic Advising Services, shared essential insights on the future of Black philanthropy.
