Temporary Operations Support, North Star Fund

North Star Fund is a social justice fund that supports grassroots organizing led by communities of color building power in New York City and the Hudson Valley. We organize people across race and class to give in support of social justice movements. We also offer year-round programming to help organizers build and sustain their work.

Position Overview
Do you love community organizing and getting people excited about social justice? You might be our next Donor Organizer.

The Donor Organizer will collaborate across our teams to grow and nurture North Star Fund’s network of people committed to transformative action through giving. This is not a fundraising position, it is a role that will focus on creating and leading dynamic programming for North Star Fund’s highly engaged donor community. Programming will support donors in developing giving practices that are values-driven and aligned with the priorities and needs of grassroots movements.

North Star Fund is a social justice fund that supports grassroots organizing led by communities of color building power in New York City and the Hudson Valley. We organize people across race and class to give in support of social justice movements. We also offer year-round programming to help organizers build and sustain their work.

This position is full-time, exempt. The Donor Organizer will report to the Donor Program Director and will regularly partner with other staff.

Responsibilities
The Donor Organizer will work collaboratively to develop public events that engage North Star Fund’s diverse community of partners. They will provide logistic and facilitation support for trainings and workshops led by the Donor Program Director. The Donor Organizer will also regularly communicate with program participants to offer organizational updates and to maintain authentic connection. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to build trust, understanding, and supportive relationships with North Star Fund grantees, donors and philanthropic partners. Specific responsibilities include:

Develop Engaging Public Events
Work in close coordination with North Star Fund’s Development and Grantmaking teams to create public programming that advances our mission and generates excitement about grassroots organizing in New York City and the Hudson Valley.
Share feedback and insights learned from donors and program participants with the relevant teams to help improve and inform future programing and support provision.

Provide Programmatic Support for Trainings and Workshops
Support the design and facilitation process for workshops aligned with North Star Fund’s mission around how to be a stronger ally through one’s giving, including social justice-oriented strategies for planning gifts and vehicles like donor-advised funds.
Recruit program participants with attention to building groups that are aligned with North Star Fund’s values and are multiracial, cross-class and intergenerational.
Conduct individual meetings with donors to learn more about their interests and capacities before matching them with the appropriate donor education and training opportunities.
Lead political education and collective learning spaces on subjects like grassroots organizing, race, class and racial capitalism.
Facilitate grassroots fundraising trainings and other skill-based workshops related to resource mobilization.
Provide individual and small group coaching on giving plans and resource mobilization for donors in the North Star Fund network.
Maintain and improve systems for tracking and managing data pertaining to program participants.

Contribute to Content Creation
Draft clear and engaging content about North Star Fund’s donor education and training programs for newsletters and website updates.
Use program listservs to keep current participants and Donor Program alumni informed and connected to new engagement opportunities.

Nurture Relationships with External Partners
Build new relationships and help to grow the North Star Fund’s donor community while also sustaining the support and engagement of long-term supporters.
Strengthen and expand partnerships with donor organizing and resource mobilization networks locally and throughout the US.

Support Strong Organizational Culture
Contribute to a safe, healthy, collaborative, and productive team culture.
Attend and contribute to internal staff and team meetings as well as retreats when needed.
Engage in and help to shape the organization's strategic planning.

Required Skills
Demonstrated commitment to social justice, progressive social change, and the core values of North Star Fund
Knowledge of and commitment to grassroots organizing led by communities of color
Highly organized, with strong project management skills and attention to detail
Strong facilitation skills, experience working with groups and designing agendas and curriculum for group processes
Ability to quickly connect, build trust and develop authentic relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
Flexible, creative, and open to experimenting with new ideas
Fluency with related concepts around race, class, and racial capitalism
Willingness to engage in ongoing political education and skill development
Proficiency with standard office software (such as Word, Excel or Google Worksuite), video conferencing platforms (Zoom or Meet), and internal communications platforms (Slack, Microsoft Teams)
Desired Skills
Experience managing volunteers
Community organizing or movement building experience
Knowledge of or interest in grassroots fundraising,  planned giving, and or family philanthropy

Physical Requirements
Must be able to work at a computer screen for several hours a day. Must be able to meet with a wide range of people, including grantee organizations and North Star Fund supporters, in person or via video conferencing. Occasional evening and weekend events as needed. Light lifting for in-person events may be required, but accommodations will be made as necessary for the safety and well-being of all employees.

Compensation
The salary for this position is $85,881 in accordance with North Star Fund’s compensation structure. North Star Fund offers generous benefits that include 100% premium paid for medical, dental, and vision insurance; a 403(b) retirement plan with an employer contribution, a work-from-home stipend, flex-time, vacation and holidays. Additional Information
North Star Fund uses a 32-hour work week for full-time employees, with normal workdays running Monday through Thursday. Evening and weekend work is sometimes required. We currently use a hybrid work model: we work from home and have an office in midtown Manhattan. We have not yet set a date for a return to our physical office for in-person full-time work.

Residency
All staff are required to periodically attend in-person meetings and events in New York City and the Hudson Valley. Applicants must live in the Hudson Valley or New York City or be within a one-hour commute to these areas.
