Announcing the 2025 Sustainable Development Goals Community Foundation Cohort
ABFE is proud to announce in partnership with CFLeads the recipients of the 2025 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Community Foundation Cohort! This transformative cohort is designed to empower community foundations to mobilize stakeholders, amplify their missions, and drive meaningful impact—all while advancing racial equity through the SDG framework.
Join us in celebrating and congratulating the following selected foundations for their commitment to equity, accountability, and community progress:
- Legacy Foundation (Merrillville, Indiana)
- Wayne County Community Foundation (Honesdale, Pennsylvania)
- Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation (Oak Park, Illinois)
- Community Foundation of Greater Flint (Flint, Michigan)
- Legacy, a Regional Community Foundation (Winfield, Kansas)
- Community Foundation of Lorraine County (Elyria, Ohio)
- Central Florida Foundation (Orlando, Florida)
- Community Foundation of Johnson County (Coralville, Iowa)
In 2024, ABFE refined its Responsive Philanthropy in Black Communities (RPBC) framework to align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), enhancing its capacity to foster racial equity and measurable impact. CFLeads complements this effort by incorporating its Community Leadership framework, creating a holistic, collaborative approach to long-term transformation for community foundations. These efforts, along with ABFE’s prior cohort programs, are generously supported by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
Community foundations are already tackling issues addressed by the 17 SDGs, even without a formal SDG framework in place. The 2025 program helps funders deepen their engagement with SDGs by:
- Advancing existing frameworks and introducing SDG-aligned strategies to new institutions.
- Targeting programs to address structural barriers and prioritize equity.
Tracking and measuring impact to communicate more effectively with stakeholders and donors.
With a distinct focus on racial equity, the program also strengthens overall organizational effectiveness—internally and externally—ensuring community foundations are equipped to lead boldly and drive meaningful change. Together, through the 2025 SDG Community Foundation Cohort, we’re building a future where community foundations lead with equity, drive measurable impact, and inspire lasting change for generations to come.
