JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Development will design and execute on a comprehensive development program for NBCDI. This individual will be responsible for designing, leading, and executing strategies to secure financial support for the organization's advocacy, programmatic initiatives, and special events (ex.annual conference) including identifying potential donors, cultivating relationships, managing grant proposals and reporting, all while aligning with the organization's mission and values. They will work to engage the Board of Directors in fundraising activities and will report directly to the President & CEO. This person is a savvy, creative thinker with an uncanny ability to execute with excellence, self-awareness and welcomed accountability.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· In partnership with the President/CEO, assesses organizational fundraising needs and goals and defines NBCDI’s fundraising strategies and policies and implementation.
· Develops and creates a robust and strategic long-term development plan including an annual campaign.
· Oversees and administratively manages all NBCDI Grants.
· Responsible for meeting the organization’s unearned income projections through direct fundraising and supervision of development department activities.
· Engages the Board of Directors in fundraising activities and other related special projects.
· Prepares timely, informative reports on fundraising and communications.
· Advances and cultivates:
· Membership campaigns through direct mail efforts and personalized fundraising initiatives,
· Government grant projects,
· Current donor relationships and identify potential donors through cultivation and solicitation strategies
· Determines and helps develop concepts for print and other media pieces needed for fundraising;
· Develops and tracks proposals and reports for all government, foundation and corporate fundraising.
· Oversees all special events for donor recognition and fundraising, both internally and externally.
· Educates and communicates fundraising goals to the entire organization.
· Ensures that donor tracking systems accommodate the business needs of the organization; assesses new systems as appropriate. Ensures the effective, timely implementation of new systems where appropriate.
· Collaborates with Finance and CEO/President to develop the annual departmental budgets.
· Monitor departmental budget to ensure that annual projects are accurate
· Manages special projects as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CREDENTIALS
· A strong track record of achieving fundraising goals.
· Senior leadership development and/or philanthropy experience in a nonprofit, policy/advocacy or public service environment (typically 6-8 years).
· Experience responding effectively to shifting and evolving fundraising priorities.
· Experience cultivating and maintaining investors, funders, and donors in a mission-driven organization.
· Experience cultivating and securing major grants and/or high-net-worth individual donors.
· Comprehensive knowledge of development principles and practices including all aspects of fundraising, with a strong background in securing major gifts, corporate and foundation relations;
· Outstanding relationship management skills to include the ability to effectively develop relationships with funders, community partners and other key stakeholders;
· Demonstrated experience preparing federal and other grant proposal;
· Excellent written, oral communication and analytical skills;
· Strong attention to detail and organization skills, ability to prioritize and excellent problem solving skills;
· Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a deadline driven environment.

Salary Range: Compensation for this role is between $80,000-$95,000 annually based on experience and is a part of a comprehensive benefits package.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This a remote position with travel to the conference and event locations required. This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 15 lbs.
