About the Conservation and Science Program

The Conservation and Science (C&S) program at the Packard Foundation is focused on the challenge of sustainability—finding development paths that meet human needs while protecting and restoring the ecological systems upon which all life depends. It prioritizes solutions to climate change—an urgent, undeniable, and unique threat that touches all cultures and geographies. Climate change disrupts earth’s natural systems. It threatens public health, global development, and safety. And it hurts the world’s most vulnerable people most of all. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions over the next 10 years is essential to stabilize our climate. It is a problem that can be solved in ways that provide economic and social benefits for all.

The Program Analyst will support the loosely defined “Climate and Land” team comprised of the Agriculture, Livelihoods, and Conservation (ALC), Bioenergy, and Palm Oil grantmaking strategies. This team executes grantmaking internationally and domestically to support livelihoods for smallholder farmers, rural, forest-dependent, and indigenous communities while also conserving tropical forest areas; reducing greenhouse gas emissions caused by the expansion of commodity agriculture and associated with bioenergy; and enhancing the ability of natural ecosystems to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through reforestation and carbon sequestration. It includes a Director, Program Officers, Program Associates, and in-country Advisors in Ethiopia and Indonesia. The Program Analyst will be deeply engaged with the Climate and Land team, along with our internal and external partners, in this process.

The C&S program also recognizes that as members of the philanthropic community they have a responsibility to be agents of change. The team recognizes that the power imbalances in the systems in which they work are barriers to achieving our goals. C&S is committed to addressing these imbalances, promoting diversity, and advancing equity and inclusion through the use of financial and human resources. The Program Analyst will help the strategy teams implement and be accountable to this commitment.
